HOW IT WORKS

Applied Behavior Analysis is a science-based therapy intended to increase positive and assertive behaviors that are socially appropriate. This modern approach to behavior-related disorders aims to help children adapt and improve their abilities to become independent and successful. Each treatment is personalized based on specific needs and adaptable to the child’s progress. Parents and caregivers are active participants in the treatment plan.

Steps in the ABA service

Consultations and Evaluation

The parent(s) will meet with a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to elaborate a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA). In the first consultation, the BCBA and the family review information about the current child’s strengths, abilities, and challenges. The second consultation includes skills tests, where the BCBA interacts with your child and observes the behaviors in the natural environment. For additional information, it may be necessary to conduct a third consultation. Setting and environment may vary; consultations could take place at the school, the daycare, or the community.

Developing Service Plans

The BCBA will create a personalized Service Plan according to the information gathered. The treatment plan will reflect goals for the specific needs of the child. The purpose is to decrease challenging behaviors and increase learning abilities.

Developing

Implementing the Service Plan

The BCBA will guide and monitor ABA treatment implementation. Services include Caregiver and family training, supervision provided by the BCBA, and 1:1 therapy sessions with the Registered Behavior Technician (RBT). The therapy intensity may vary depending on the client’s specific needs.

Training parents and other caregivers

Caregiver Training is conducted by the BCBA on a regular basis. By working as a team with treatment providers, caregivers are guided to support progress and promote independence in the child’s daily life. Family and caregivers participate in treatment by using ABA principles outside therapy.

Frequent Evaluation

As behaviors continuously change, frequent progress evaluations allow for timely adjustments. The BCBA adapts interventions and environmental conditions to obtain the most effective strategies to help your child thrive. A re-evaluation of the service plan is updated every six months.
